The Hamilton Wetlands Restoration Project will be receiving its first placement of dredged material from the Port of Oakland in February and there will be an event to celebrate the union. The date for the event will be announced soon.
This significant milestone joins two extraordinary projects to synergize enhancing the economy and restoring the environment.
This is a great example of the beneficial reuse of dredged material and striving to achieve environmental sustainability while recognizing the interdependence of life and the physical environment.
The Oakland Harbor Deepening Project allows the San Francisco Bay region to benefit from 28,000 jobs and $1.8 billion in operating business revenue annually.
The San Francisco Bay Estuary is one of the largest and most significant estuaries along the western coast of the United States. Over 40 percent of California’s land area and 60 percent of the volume of the state’s runoff drains into the estuary.
The Hamilton Wetlands Restoration Project is located along the northwestern shore of the San Pablo Bay, in the northern reach of the San Francisco Bay Estuary and includes 988 acres of land.
In order to restore the land to natural wetlands, the site will be raised to an appropriate elevation to recreate the wetlands through the placement of dredged material.
We hope that you will be able to join us in celebrating this special event.
